Teacher, Artist, Friend.
Lucy Poscente was one of the originators and a continuing driving force of the Heintzman House Art Show. She had a very clear and simple vision, and under her enthusiasm and guidance it became, and is, a well known and successful show. She not only visited numerous shows for potential artists, but was willing to devote her time to the more mundane and time consuming tasks involved in making the show a success. Those taking part in the show knew that they could call on her at any time to ask for guidance and advice. Many often said how helpful she was in assisting them to feel comfortable with their participation in the show.
Before the current Heintzman House Art Show started in 2006, Lucy was involved in the 7th Thornhill Scouts’ Art Show, held for many years at the Heintzman House until the early 1990’s.
For a long time, Lucy was an inspiring art teacher, helping many of her students to go further with their art work, to join art groups and to take part in juried shows. She was always full of encouragement, at the same time advising one on how to improve on a painting. Lucy was generous with her knowledge.
Lucy was a member of the Willowdale Group of Artists and was on the executive for several years. She volunteered to hang shows, look for places where shows might be held, and helped organize and run the occasions when paintings were juried. She was one of the Group’s most successful artists, winning many awards at juried and other shows.
Her work hangs in many homes, offices, Government buildings and in The Heintzman House.Among her many accomplishments, Lucy painted charming portraits of all thirteen of her grandchildren.
We have lost a true and valued friend. She will be long remembered.
